Beginning Piano Lessons at Hunt A+ Arts Elementary School

The Music Academy offers beginning piano lesson program to 4th and 5th grade students at Hunt Elementary. We offer 7-week sessions of basic beginning piano lessons to familiarize the students with the piano and teach them basic skills. Volunteer teachers work with the students at an appropriate level based on their ability. At the final lesson of each session, there is a recital where students play a piece that they learned. The recital gives them the chance to perform for an audience.

Beginning Piano Lesson details:

  • Lessons are on Mondays after school from 3:30-4:30.

  • Students are met at Hunt and escorted across the street to the music academy.

  • After the lesson students can be picked up, walk home, or are escorted back to beyond the Bell, if they are signed up for Beyond the Bell.

  • Students who don’t have access to a piano or keyboard are loaned a mini keyboard for them to explore the piano and to practice. Keyboards are returned at the last lesson.

  • There are 3 sessions during the year. These sessions start in September, January, and March.

  • Mrs. Nieuwendorp, music teacher at Hunt, hands out forms to students who are interested in taking piano lessons.
